Need More Energy?
You may be missing this important and simple solution.
We’ve all heard it – get plenty of rest, exercise regularly, eat healthy and you’ll have energy to burn. True? False! In fact, many adults who live healthy lifestyles are still frustrated by the lack of energy they feel. That’s because many adults are missing an important but simple solution to having more energy – vitamin B12.
Vitamin b12 benefits for those with seasonal allergies.
Impressive relief for seasonal allergies
Several studies have suggested that Vitamin B12 could help reduce seasonal allergies. In one clinical study, a group of seasonal allergy sufferers spent up to six weeks taking massive amounts of B12 through sublingual delivery, just like TriVita’s Sublingual B12, B-6 & Folic Acid. Many of the worst symptoms – sneezing, congestion and itchy, runny nose – were half as severe in the B12 group as in the placebo group.

New DocumentThe Noticeable Benefits of B12
You can really enjoy the noticeable benefits of B12, like the increased energy and mental clarity. It is also good to know there are other benefits of B12 that are not noticeable on a daily basis.
If you already supplement with B12, this research gives you more reason to stay on track with your health habits. Here’s a review of some of the B12 studies that have recently made headlines. I think you’ll agree that it’s an impressive body of research. Vitamin B12 eases symptoms of congestive heart failure While doctors prescribe various medications for congestive heart failure (CHF), Vitamin B12 has been shown to be another effective way to lessen symptoms.
Vitamin B12 helps create taurine, an amino acid which studies suggest may be useful in treating CHF symptoms. Participants in a study showed significant improvement in their ability to breathe, with a reduction in heart palpitations and fluid buildup.

Multivitamins taken regularly over a long period of time may lower the risk of death from heart disease by 16 percent, according to a new study at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center at the University of Washington.
The study, published in the American Journal of Epidemiology, also tied daily supplements of vitamin E over a 10-year period to a 28 percent decrease in the risk of death from heart disease.
The new research goes against two older reports, including a much-debated 2004 study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine that said multivitamins — and vitamin E in particular — actually increased the risk of “all-cause mortality.”The other previous study, published in 2007 in the Journal of the American Medical Association, said vitamin A, vitamin E, and beta-carotene could increase the risk of death by as much as 16 percent.
The new Washington study found that multivitamins did not decrease the risk of causes of death other than heart disease. It also showed that multivitamins and vitamin E were not linked to an increase in cancer deaths, and that vitamins E and C actually were associated with small decreases in the risk of overall mortality.
The researchers based their findings on questionnaires that more than 77,000 Washington State residents between the ages of 50 and 76 completed. The results were correlated with 10-year use of multivitamins and vitamins C and E, and with death from cardiovascular disease and cancer.
Roughly 35 percent of the U.S. adult population takes multivitamins regularly, according to a recent National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey.
Are YOU wasting money on worthless vitamins? It’s been reported that many inferior — cheaply compounded, poorly absorbed, low quality multivitamins are available in the marketplace. Are the nutrition vitamin supplements you’re taking, high quality, and easily absorbed ? You want to make sure you’re getting all of the vitamins and nutrients that are listed on the label, which brings me to another point.
Most manufacturers follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and you should make sure they do before purchasing their products. The purpose of GMPs is to assure that what is on the label is in the product; that the product disintegrates and is bioavailable and unadulterated.
Don’t fall for outrageous claims made by the manufacturer. “Some companies claim that their brand of ‘vitamin Z’ is superior because of the form, or because it is ‘all natural,’ or it is combined with ’synergistic nutrients’ or herbs. Most of the time the additional dietary factors that are present are there in such small quantities that they have only a token presence – not enough to be therapeutic.” [1]
TriVita makes no outrageous claims when it comes to their nutritional vitamin supplements. They do, however, ensure that you get the safest, freshest, and most effective products available on the market today. They also say that each product is made under the strictest quality controls in the nutritional supplement industry. All manufacturing and laboratory processes meet or exceed the most current Good Manufacturing Practices as published by the Food and Drug Administration in March 2003.
Taking ineffective vitamins costs you money — money you could put to use in other ways that contribute to better health for you and your family. And many of the common vitamins lining the shelves of stores come in multiple forms, some good, some bad, some totally worthless.
Before buying any nutritional vitamin supplements, do your due-diligence and find the best product at the best price. To learn more about TriVita and their nutritional products, click on this link: TriVita Products.

Desperate To Lose Weight
As if people struggling with obesity did not have enough to worry about, they now face a new health hazard. According to statistics from the US, overweight people appear more likely to die of swine flu.
Most of the people who have died from H1N1 swine flu have had an underlying health problem that weakened their ability to fight off the virus. Among the conditions recognised as increasing the risk from flu are hypertension, diabetes, chronic lung obstruction and coronary disease. Now it may be time to add obesity to the list.
Unpublished figures reported at a recent meeting of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, Georgia, show that of 99 people who died in the early stages of the pandemic in the US, 45 per cent were obese. As only 26 per cent of US adults are obese, this suggests that obesity doubles the risk of getting seriously ill with swine flu.
The figures surprised most flu researchers. “In 40 years of studying flu, I have never heard anything about obesity,” says virologist John Oxford of Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, University of London. Obesity specialists, however, say it fits with what they have learned in recent years.
The only study looking directly at flu and obesity was done in 2007 by Melinda Beck and colleagues at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. It was already known that abdominal fat releases a continuous stream of chemicals that trigger inflammation, an immune response normally aimed at killing invading pathogens and infected cells. So Beck’s team wondered what effect this had on flu. They were especially interested, she says, because runaway inflammation, known as a “cytokine storm”, is what kills most flu victims.
Beck and her team found that overfed, obese mice are nearly seven times as likely to die of ordinary flu as genetically identical lean mice (The Journal of Nutrition, vol 137, p 1236).
The researchers also measured immune chemicals in the mice’s blood. Prior to infection, the obese mice had much higher levels of a hormone called leptin than the normal mice. During the initial stages of infection, they had fewer virus-killing cells and chemicals.
Leptin is released by fat cells and, among other things, triggers immune reactions. Beck thinks that obese mice become desensitised to leptin, making their immune system slow to react. “Our experiments suggest the problem is the fat itself.”
As their flu worsened, the obese mice did mount an immune response, but it was “too little too late”, says Beck. It failed to get rid of the virus and eventually triggered a runaway immune response that escalated until it killed the mice – much as the cytokine storm does in people.
We don’t know if the same series of events happen in obese people with swine flu, Beck warns. But it is possible that, as in mice, obesity dampens our ability to fight flu by disrupting the immune response, says Jesse Roth, a diabetes specialist at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. “The resting level of inflammation goes up in obesity,” he says. He suspects that this disrupts the body’s immune response to viruses, making a lethal runaway reaction more likely.
During a flu pandemic, it is more important than ever to tackle obesity, Roth says. “It’s amazing how much obesity-related inflammation you can reverse with just a little diet and exercise.” He says a daily half-hour walk and losing about 5 per cent of body weight if you are overweight is enough to reduce inflammation. ” David Fedson, a former flu researcher at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, has long proposed using drugs that damp down inflammation, such as statins, fibrates and glitazones, as an additional way of cutting deaths from flu. These drugs are normally prescribed for obesity-related disorders such as high cholesterol and insulin insensitivity. Drugs that damp down inflammation could offer an additional way of cutting deaths from flu
The new figures on obesity and swine flu strengthen the case for stockpiling the drugs, given that shortages of vaccine and antiviral drugs are likely, Fedson says. “These drugs are safe and cheap, but they are being ignored by pandemic planners.”

Learn why we consider Vitamin C to be “Vital C”
Would you like to hear something interesting about Vitamin C? Almost all mammals produce Vitamin C as ascorbic acid in their livers. But not humans. In fact, almost all animals in the Animal Kingdom produce Vitamin C every day to maintain their health. Why don’t humans produce Vitamin C? How much Vitamin C do you need to take? What effect does Vitamin C have in your body?
How much Vitamin C do you need?
Let’s answer the easy question first: How much Vitamin C does a person need to take? Well, when animals produce Vitamin C it is according to their needs at that time in their lives. A young dolphin may produce much more Vitamin C than an older sibling or parent. However, all dolphins – and all other animals – produce more Vitamin C when they have an infection, when they are exposed to toxins and when they are under stress.
So, we understand that people need different amounts of Vitamin C at different times in their lives. They also need more Vitamin C when they face challenges to their health and well-being. In past Weekly Wellness Reports, we discussed how a Vitamin C flush can help you determine how much Vitamin C you can use during a given period of your life. The Vitamin C flush was actually recommended by Linus Pauling protégé, Dr. Alfred Libby, and by the Director of the National Institutes of Health, Dr. Russell Jaffe. See below for more information on the benefits of the Vitamin C flush.
How your body uses Vitamin C
What does your body do with all that Vitamin C? Well, Vitamin C makes things happen. In the human body, Vitamin C makes almost everything happen!
Bones – All the minerals in your bones require Vitamin C to turn them from lifeless rocks into health-building minerals.
Blood – Your blood needs Vitamin C to convert iron into hemoglobin.
Thyroid – Your thyroid gland needs Vitamin C to convert copper into thyroid enzymes that carry protein.
Collagen – All of the collagen in your skin, gums and the rest of your body requires Vitamin C to convert dead protein from your diet into living tissue. This makes you look good as well as feel good!
Immune system function – Vitamin C activates a certain kind of immune cell called a lymphocyte. Lymphocytes, as the name implies, live mostly in your lymph system. However, they can travel in your bloodstream as well. Lymphocytes that have been activated by your thymus gland can go anywhere in your body to help fight disease. The thymus gland uses Vitamin C to program lymphocytes to search out one specific target and help destroy it.
Antioxidant protection – Vitamin C is also an antioxidant. Your body uses it to make glutathione – the “mother” of all antioxidants. What’s more, all other antioxidants can be refreshed by Vitamin C. Important antioxidants like Vitamins A and E can have their lifespan extended by Vitamin C. Antioxidants protect you from premature aging.
Vitamin C has so many functions that you could spend a lifetime studying this one important vitamin. Do the Vitamin C flush and determine how much Vitamin C you can use each day. I suggest that you repeat this procedure quarterly – at the change of the seasons. You will find your need for Vitamin C will diminish when you eat fresh fruits and vegetables. It will increase when you are under stress or facing illness.

A final word on Vitamin C
The final question is: Why don’t humans produce Vitamin C like other animals? The answer is, no one knows. What we do know is that people are healthier when they eat Vitamin C-rich fruits and vegetables. And in this stress-filled, toxic world we have created, more Vitamin C is needed than a depleted diet can provide. This is why we have supplements to help us compensate for the special circumstances we face in today’s world.
The Learn why we consider Vitamin C to be “Vital C” article listed above, in its entirety, is courtesy of Brazos Minchew, Chief Science Officer for TriVita.
Most pharmaceutical companies claim that all supplements are the same. I believe there is a difference between many supplements. Although I don’t have all the answers, I personally prefer the Vitamin C crystals, but it’s up to you to find the supplements that deliver the best results. One way to find a supplement that will meet your needs is to search Google.

Desperate To Lose Weight
If you’ve been paying close attention to the news lately, you might have seen this headline: Diet – not exercise – is the key to weight loss, according to a Loyola University Health System study.
But if you think that gives you an excuse to sit around all day, think again.
“The problem lies in the words ‘weight loss,’” eDiets Chief Fitness Pro Raphael Calzadilla says. “The goal should be to retain or increase muscle mass and lose body fat. This approach stimulates the metabolism and creates a healthy functioning system. Our society is too focused on the scale and not on a holistic approach to health and fitness.”
As part of the study, researchers compared both the activity level and diet of African American women in metropolitan Chicago with those of women in rural Nigeria; the Chicago women weighed an average of 184 pounds while the Nigerian women averaged 127 pounds.
Researchers expected the slimmer Nigerian women to be more physically active than the other group, but both groups of women burned roughly the same number of calories through exercise. So what do the researchers attribute the weight difference to? In a word, diet.
In the study, Loyola nutritionist Amy Luke noted that the Nigerian diet was high in fiber and carbs but low in fat and protein. Conversely, the Chicago women ate a diet made up of highly processed foods and 40-45 percent fat. The study, however, doesn’t mention how many calories each group consumed.
Although diet may play a crucial role in weight loss, you should combine diet with a proven fitness program for the best results, according to Raphael. He explains how focusing on diet alone will help you lost weight — at the expense of muscle.
“For example, person A reduces calories and does not exercise,” Raphael says. “They subsequently lose 15 pounds, but those 15 pounds might be water, fat and muscle. In addition, they’ve done nothing to increase their energy level and may even appear less firm.”
And what about the person who diets and exercises regularly?
“Person B reduces calories to an appropriate amount and loses fat and water weight,” he says. “However, this person also gains or retains muscle from exercising and increases their energy level as well… the key is removing ourselves from the term ‘weight loss’ and shifting our perspective to fat loss and muscle gain/retention.”

Desperate To Lose Weight
With the summer heat I’m constantly thinking of hydration. Water is crucial in the body and is very often the “forgotten nutrient.”
There are 6 Groups of Essential Nutrients
- Carbohydrates
- Fats & Oils
- Proteins
- Vitamins
- Minerals
- Water
These six nutrients are considered ESSENTIAL because our bodies need them to survive.
The first 3 (Carbohydrates, Fats & Oils, and Proteins) are energy providing nutrients. They are the only 3 that provide our body with calories, and are often referred to as macro nutrients since our bodies need them in large quantities to function properly.
Vitamins & Minerals are referred to as micro nutrients since our bodies need them in relatively small quantities (it doesn’t mean they’re less important!). These micro nutrients support many important bodily functions, and when deficiency occurs, consequences are seen.
The last one is water, and it is often forgotten as an essential nutrient. Your water intake is more than just the water you drink, but it also comes from places such as juice, soups, fruits and vegetables.
What role does fluid play in your body?
- Dissolves & transports substances throughout the body
- Accounts for blood volume
- Regulates body temperature
- Protects & lubricates our tissues
These roles are all incredibly important for good health, and also rather complex in nature!
How much water do you need?
- Intake is extremely individualized (athletes need more, and those in humid environments need more)
- DRI for adult men 19-50: 3.7 liters of total water day (food & liquids), or about 3.0 lifters of beverages
- DRI for adult women 19-50: 2.7 liters of total water (foods & liquids), or about 2.2 litres of beverages
- Athletes should replace every pound of weight loss from sweat with 16 ounces of liquids.
Is bottle water better than tap?
- Americans drink approximately 7.5 billion gallons of bottled water each year!
- There is no evidence that says bottled water is better.
- In fact a lot of bottled water may be tap water packaged.
- Some types of bottled water have minerals added. Check the label for sodium, some have quite a bit and if you need to watch your sodium intake beware!
- If you use your own filtration systems at home make sure to change the filter appropriately.
- If you drink out of a cooler at work, make sure it is cleaned once a month (run 1/2 gallon of white vinegar through it, and rinse with 5 gallons of water)
- For more information about tap water safety visit: www.epa.gov
- For more information on bottled water visit: www.bottledwater.org

Loosing weight could save the you and/or the government thousands of dollars a year on your healthcare costs. According to the non-profit research group RTI International, “an obese patient has $4,871 in medical bills a year compared with $3,442 for a patient at a healthy weight.” [1]
This current study also reveals that “Americans who are 30 or more pounds over a healthy weight cost the country an estimated $147 billion in weight-related medical bills in 2008, double the amount a decade ago.” [1]
Since weight loss not only increases your life expectancy, and decreases the risk of heart disease, and diabetes, it makes sense to shed those extra pounds and start getting into shape.
In no way shape or form am I immune to this problem. I’ve added a few extra pounds over the past few year. Although I’m not yet considered obese, and I’m not yet 30 pounds over my normal weight, age has a way to increase your weight if you’re not aware of it.
As you age your metabolism, a complex network of hormones and enzymes that not only convert food into fuel but also affect how efficiently you burn that fuel, slows down.
According to the WebMD web site, “Your metabolism is influenced by your age (metabolism naturally slows about 5% per decade after age 40); your sex (men generally burn more calories at rest than women); and proportion of lean body mass (the more muscle you have, the higher your metabolic rate tends to be).” [2]
So if you want to increase your metabolic rate, you need to increase your activity level, especially as you age. You may also want to consider some form of dietary weigh loss system like Leanology. Although many weight loss systems on the market are very effective in the short term, it’s a long term weight management problem that we are after. In other words, keeping the weight off once you lose it.
If we are going to keep the weight off, we need to promote regular physical activity, healthy eating, and create an environment that supports these behaviors. Addressing the problem of long term weight management is crucial if we are going to lower the healthcare costs and keep the costs down. And I believe this starts on a individual basis; it has to start with each one of us.
Before we can point fingers at the President, the government, or the healthcare system, we need to look into the mirror, and ask yourself this question; do I look physically fit? If NOT, what are you going to do about it? In my opinion, if it’s not some chemical imbalance that’s causing someone to be overweight, the insurance companies should penalize the obese individuals by making them pay a higher deductible than someone that is within the “normal” category.
Healthcare costs are out of hand. Too many people are overweight. And it’s costing the tax payers way too much money. $147 billion dollars could be used in more productive ways than “paying for weigh-related medical bills.”
The need for a weight loss program like TriVita’s Leanology™ is important to start the weight loss process, but it’s not the total cure-all. There has to be a lifestyle change if you want to achieve long term results. These results will improve every facet of your life, and can carry over to other members of your immediate family.
